I am gonna share my backpacking experience to Munnar, a hill station in Kerala. this was sudden and a small trip with a few of my friends.
Munnar, located in Idukki district of god’s own country, Kerala is a hill station that owns breathtaking views, tea plantations, and awesome climatic conditions. Munnar is much popular for ‘neelakurinji’ that blooms only once in 12 years. there is an overflow of tourists to Munnar at that time.
so I visited here when the hills were fully covered with neelakurinji flowers that offered a beautiful treat for the eyes. the hills were literally in blue color.
I had my stay at will mount resorts, in kallar. they offer you neat and clean rooms and tents at very budget-friendly rates. they have got A-frame cabins and treehouses amidst the forest and the view from the windows of these are so amazing. will mount offers adventure activities and food in their packages. the package I opted was for just 2 days and the activities in that pack include:
- jeep trekking
- sunrise trekking
- sunset trekking
the jeep trekking was along the rugged roads of Munnar to a hilltop, the jeep will only go up to a certain point after that you have to climb up through the cardamom plantations to reach the hilltop. this trekking is quite interesting as it offers astonishing views along the whole way.
the itinerary is as follows:
check-in at the resort by 12 pm
after lunch, the sunset trekking starts by 3 pm to the nearby hill top.you can enjoy the serenity of the hills and the beauty of marvelous sunset.
reaches the resort back by 7 pm and you can freshen up if you want.
barbecue and campfire preparations will be starting by 7, its the time to party, you can enjoy the music or dance around the campfire or just stay calm. and that”s the end of day one.
sunrise trekking starts at 5 am in the morning and returns to the resort by 7 am.
after that, you can have a quality breakfast and stay in your rooms and enjoy the views from the balcony or around the resort and could explore there.
as I visited there at the time of neelakurinji season, we went to see them after breakfast.aaahhh!!!the view was just incredible! the valley was in violet color and the flowers looked so pretty. I surely recommend that one must experience this rare view at least once in their lifetime.
things to carry:
- trekking shoes
- power bank and chargers
- extra cash
- personal hygiene products
best time to visit:
the best time to visit Munnar is during winter and monsoon. that is from July to November and January to march.at this time the landscape of Munnar is just amazing with misty hills and roads.and the weather is just perfect during this time. tourists flock during this time to Munnar.
will mount resorts offer packages at different budgets. there are high-end packages as well as low-end packages. the quality of food and accommodation pays 100% justice to the amount paid. the amount for the 2-day Munnar package is 2000 for a group of 3. which is quite affordable. this is budget-friendly destinations that you can go with your friends and family.
the resort has got a variety of options for your stay. they have tree houses, A-frame cabins, amidst the forest. tents on the hilltop and cottages and high-end executive rooms with balconies that opens to a wonderful sight ahead. the budget changes according to your stay requirements. if you want a low budget trip, then you can go for tents, A-frame cabins, and cottages.
Munnar is truly an amazing place to visit in Kerala, there are a lot of other destinations to visit in Munnar, like tea plantations, mattupetty dam, Thekkady and the list goes on. here I have described a budget-friendly small staycation in Munnar. this was a truly overwhelming experience and the hospitality I received was damn good. enjoyed some quality hours at this pretty place with some good people. do visit this place and don’t forget to share your experiences.
